Trip Introduction:-
Ghorepani Poonhill Trek takes you to the top of one of the most popular viewpoints, Poonhill, in Annapurna region and creates an opportunity to celebrate stupendous sunrise and mountain views including Annapurna Massif, majestic Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre( Fishtail), Ganesh Himal and Manaslu. This trek is also a venture into the largest Gurung settlement of Ghandruk. Similarly, trekkers will have an opportunity to enjoy their spectacular walk passing through awe-inspiring landscapes, traditional hamlets of various ethnic people, deep woods, mainly, the rhododendron, delightful natural waterfalls and marvelous terraced fields. Encountering with friendly and hospitable local people and interacting will equally be incredible experience during this trek.
Begin this Ghorepani Poonhill Trek formally from Ulleri clockwise. Previously, people would walk from the main entry point of Annapurna region, Nayapool and still do. Optionally, you can do it anticlockwise beginning from Ghandruk , the largest Gurung settlement of Nepal. Actually, majority of people prefer doing it clockwise which will relatively be easier. We drive up to Ulleri so that you will escape the challenge hitting more that 3000 stone steps going all the way up to Banthati. You will walk passing through lush rhododendron and cascading waterfalls until you get beautiful village called Ghorepani directly facing towards Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range. Arriving at Ghorepani, you will absolutely marvel at witnessing spectacular mountain range just in the front. Further, climb Poonhill early in the morning, capture the blissful moments of sunrise and an extended mountain panorama. Descend to Ghorepani and trek to Tadapani with equal excitement and beautiful experiences of witnessing snow-covered mountain peaks and walking into core wilderness.
Again, when you arrive at Ghandruk, you experience authentic Gurung people’s culture and civilization which are incredible. The foods they eat, the way they dress up and the culture they follow will certainly make you think how culturally rich they are. You can go to visit monastery, Annapurna Conservation Area Project Office, can observe water purification, German Bakery and enjoy the tea/ coffee/ bakery items and interact with the local Gurung people. Eventually, you end this trek in Pokhara taking another drive from Ghandruk . Actually, we make a complete circuit in this trek. Pokhara city and its attractions including cave, water fall, stupa and lakes are other highlights of Ghorepani Poonhill Trek.
Getting the Trailhead:-
Nayapool was the trailhead for Ghorepani- Poonhill Trek previously. But nowadays, the jeep goes up to Ulleri. So, we begin this trek from Ulleri. For getting Ulleri, we have to pass Pokhara and Nayapool first. If you are beginning this trek from Kathmandu, you will either drive or fly to Pokhara first. The drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara takes around 6-7 hours and the flight is for only for 25 minutes. From Pokhara, we drive to Ulleri passing Phedi , Naudanda and Nayapool and begin our Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek formally.
Difficulty Level and Daily Working Hour:-
Grading Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek for difficulty level, it is an easy trekking trip in Annapurna region taking you 3210m as the highest elevation of the trek. The most challenging portion of this trek is the Uphill of Ulleri while ascending which you are going to escape by drive. And also, step carefully while trekking down from Ghorepani to Tadapani because sometimes the trail gets slippery. You need to work for 5-6 hours in average every day. Those who have just a good level stamina and confidence of working 5 hours in the mountain can easily do this trek.
The Best Seasons of the Year:-
Everybody knows Autumn ( Sep-Nov) and Spring ( Jun-August) are the two best seasons of the year for trekking in Nepal and the same thing is applied for Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek. Trekkers will enjoy magnificent weather during Autumn and Spring . The mountain views and the landscapes are breathtaking. Although Autumn and Spring are the two best weather for Ghorepani-Poonhill , people can undertake this trek all round the year. You will experience few days rain during Summer and some snowfall during winter, rest of the things will equally be spectacular.
