The Tsum Valley with Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most immersive Himalayan journeys, combining the sacred and secluded Tsum Valley with the dramatic high‑mountain route around Mount Manaslu, the eighth‑highest mountain on Earth. This extended expedition explores remote Buddhist villages, ancient monasteries, glacial valleys, and the challenging Larkya La Pass.
The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola, where the trail follows the powerful Budhi Gandaki River through terraced hillsides, waterfalls, and dense forests. Stone villages like Jagat and Deng reveal traditional Gurung and Tibetan‑influenced lifestyles. At Lokpa the route branches north into the hidden Tsum Valley, a culturally distinct region once closely connected with Tibet.
Within Tsum Valley, the landscape becomes quieter and more spiritual. Trekkers walk through villages such as Chumling, Chhokang Paro, and Nile before reaching Mu Gompa, the valley’s highest monastery. Prayer flags flutter above ancient chortens, and monasteries like Rachen Gompa preserve centuries‑old Buddhist traditions. The valley is known as a sacred place where the local community follows the principle of non‑violence toward all living beings.
After returning to the main Manaslu trail, the route climbs steadily through alpine forests and yak pastures to the villages of Namrung, Lho, and Samagaon. A side hike to Manaslu Base Camp offers close views of glaciers and towering peaks. Higher up, the terrain becomes stark and windswept as trekkers move toward Samdo and Dharamsala beneath massive Himalayan walls.
The most demanding and rewarding day arrives at Larkya La Pass (5,160 m). From the summit, the panorama stretches across Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and the Annapurna range. Descending to the beautiful meadow basin of Bimthang, the trail gradually enters greener valleys before finishing near Dharapani.
This trek is perfect for experienced hikers seeking both cultural depth and high‑altitude adventure. The combination of sacred valleys, remote mountain communities, and a classic Himalayan pass makes it one of Nepal’s most remarkable trekking experiences.
