The Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is a condensed version of one of Nepal’s most legendary trekking routes. Designed for travelers who want to experience the essence of the Annapurna Circuit without committing to the traditional three‑week itinerary, this 12‑day adventure combines high mountain passes, diverse landscapes, and rich Himalayan culture.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu into the Marsyangdi Valley, gradually climbing through terraced hillsides and subtropical forests toward the alpine settlements of the Annapurna region. As the trail ascends from Chame to Pisang and Manang, the scenery transforms dramatically. Pine forests give way to open valleys, windswept cliffs, and immense mountain walls dominated by Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and the Chulu peaks.
Manang serves as an essential acclimatization stop where trekkers adjust to the increasing altitude while exploring nearby viewpoints, glacial lakes, and Buddhist monasteries. Beyond this village, the environment becomes rugged and stark as you approach the high Himalaya.
The highlight of the trek is crossing Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), one of the highest trekking passes in the world. The early morning ascent rewards trekkers with sweeping Himalayan views stretching across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. After reaching the summit, the trail descends toward the sacred pilgrimage town of Muktinath, a revered site for both Hindus and Buddhists.
The journey continues through the Kali Gandaki Valley to Jomsom and Tatopani, where natural hot springs offer a welcome place to relax tired muscles. The trek concludes with a climb to Ghorepani and an early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m), famous for its panoramic sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs.
Despite its shorter timeframe, this itinerary captures the most remarkable elements of the Annapurna Circuit: dramatic altitude changes, authentic Himalayan villages, Tibetan‑influenced culture, and unforgettable mountain scenery.

CUSTOMIZE MY TRIPThe most favorable seasons for the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). During these months the skies are generally clear, mountain views are excellent, and temperatures are comfortable for trekking. Spring also brings blooming rhododendron forests, while autumn offers crisp air and stable weather following the monsoon.
Trekkers must obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card before entering the region. These permits help support conservation efforts and ensure safety management for trekkers.
This trek is considered strenuous due to the altitude and the crossing of Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters. Participants should be comfortable walking 5–7 hours per day on mountain trails and should prepare with regular cardio exercise and hiking practice before arrival.
Most travelers can obtain a Nepal tourist visa upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The visa process is straightforward and requires a passport valid for at least six months and the applicable visa fee.
The Annapurna Circuit passes through multiple climate zones. Lower valleys are mild and green, while higher elevations near Manang and Thorong La are dry and cold. Temperatures drop significantly above 4,000 meters, especially at night, so warm layers are essential.
