The Rupina La Pass Trek is one of Nepal’s lesser‑known but deeply rewarding Himalayan adventures. Beginning in the historic Gorkha region, this route travels through remote valleys, traditional Gurung settlements, and untouched alpine terrain before linking with the legendary Manaslu Circuit. Trekkers cross the high and wild Rupina La Pass before continuing toward the dramatic landscapes around Larkya La, creating an expedition‑style trek that blends culture, wilderness, and high‑altitude challenge.
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Gorkha, the ancestral home of Nepal’s royal family. From here the trail climbs gradually through terraced hillsides and forests toward traditional villages such as Barpak and Laprak, where local Gurung culture remains strong. These early days introduce trekkers to rural Himalayan life—stone houses, prayer flags, and farmers tending hillside fields.
Beyond these settlements the route becomes wilder. Dense forests give way to remote alpine valleys as you follow the Darundi Khola upstream toward glacial terrain. Eventually the path climbs to Rupina La Pass (around 4,720 m), a rugged high crossing that offers sweeping views of surrounding peaks including Manaslu (8,163 m), Himalchuli, and the Ganesh Himal range.
After the pass, the trail merges with the upper section of the Manaslu Circuit. Trekkers continue through Samagaon and Samdo before making the dramatic crossing of Larkya La Pass (5,106 m), the highest point of the journey. The panorama from the top reveals a vast sweep of ice peaks and hanging glaciers.
The trek concludes with a long descent through alpine meadows and rhododendron forests toward the Marsyangdi Valley, eventually reaching Besisahar where the road returns to Kathmandu.
This trek is ideal for experienced hikers seeking a quieter Himalayan route with real wilderness character. With remote valleys, diverse cultures, and two impressive high passes, the Rupina La Pass Trek delivers a rare blend of adventure and authenticity in the Manaslu region.
