The Mohare Danda and Ghorepani Trek is a rewarding short journey in Nepal’s Annapurna region that blends quiet community trails with one of the Himalaya’s most celebrated viewpoints. This route leads through traditional Magar and Gurung villages, terraced hillsides, and dense rhododendron forests before reaching the scenic ridgeline of Mohare Danda at around 3,300 meters.
Unlike the busier classic Annapurna trails, Mohare Danda is part of a community‑managed eco‑lodge trekking initiative. Local villages operate the lodges, meaning tourism directly supports schools, conservation projects, and rural livelihoods. Trekkers enjoy a welcoming cultural atmosphere while exploring landscapes that remain relatively uncrowded compared to other Annapurna routes.
The trail begins after a scenic journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara and onward to the foothills of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. As you ascend through Banskharka and Nangi villages, sweeping views gradually unfold. At Mohare Danda, the horizon opens dramatically with a full panorama of towering Himalayan giants including Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Annapurna South, Nilgiri, and the elegant pyramid of Machhapuchhre.
The trek continues east toward the lively village of Ghorepani, connecting with the famous Poon Hill trail. An early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m) reveals a wide amphitheater of peaks illuminated by the first light of day. From here the path winds through forested ridges toward Tadapani and traditional settlements before descending toward Pokhara.
With moderate daily walking, comfortable teahouse accommodation, and relatively low altitude, this trek is well suited for trekkers seeking a Himalayan experience without extreme elevation. It offers a wonderful mix of nature, village life, and iconic mountain scenery within a manageable timeframe.
