The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek combines two of Nepal’s most captivating landscapes into a single Himalayan journey. Beginning north of Kathmandu, the trail climbs through the beautiful Langtang Valley—often called the “Valley of Glaciers”—before crossing high alpine terrain to the sacred Gosaikunda lakes and descending through the forested ridges of Helambu.
The adventure begins with a scenic drive to Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang National Park. Trekking beside the Langtang River, you pass through bamboo forests, waterfalls, and traditional Tamang villages before reaching Langtang Village and the peaceful monastery settlement of Kyanjin Gompa. Surrounded by towering peaks such as Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, and Dorje Lakpa, this high valley offers superb views and rewarding acclimatization hikes to Kyanjin Ri.
After exploring the upper valley, the trail gradually transitions toward the Gosaikunda region. Passing through rhododendron forests and high pastures, you reach Gosaikunda Lake (4,380 m), a revered pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists. Each year during the Janai Purnima festival, pilgrims travel here to bathe in its icy waters believed to be sacred to Lord Shiva.
The trek’s highest point is Lauribina La Pass (4,610 m), where sweeping views stretch across the Himalayan skyline. From the pass, the trail descends into the Helambu region, traversing quiet forests, meadows, and traditional villages such as Ghopte, Tharepati, and Kutumsang. The journey concludes with a descent through Shivapuri National Park to Sundarijal before returning to Kathmandu.
This trek is ideal for hikers seeking a varied Himalayan experience without venturing far from Kathmandu. It offers dramatic alpine scenery, authentic mountain culture, and the spiritual atmosphere of Nepal’s sacred high-altitude lakes.

CUSTOMIZE MY TRIPThe ideal seasons for the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Spring brings blooming rhododendron forests and clear mountain views, while autumn offers stable weather and excellent visibility. Winter trekking is possible but can involve heavy snow near the pass.
Trekkers must obtain a Langtang National Park Entry Permit and a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card. These permits help regulate trekking activities and support conservation efforts in the region.
This trek is rated challenging due to multiple days above 3,500 meters and the crossing of Lauribina La Pass. Trekkers should be comfortable walking 5–7 hours per day and prepare with regular hiking, cardio training, and endurance exercises before the trip.
Most travelers can obtain a Nepal tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Visitors should carry a passport valid for at least six months and passport-size photos. Visa fees depend on the length of stay.
The Langtang region experiences varied climates due to elevation changes. Lower valleys are mild and forested, while higher elevations near Gosaikunda and Lauribina La can be cold and windy. Temperatures at higher altitudes can drop below freezing at night, especially in autumn and winter.
