The Island Peak with Everest Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding high‑altitude adventures, combining the classic journey to the foot of Mount Everest with a challenging Himalayan summit. This expedition takes you deep into the Khumbu region, through Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, and glacial valleys before culminating on the summit of Island Peak (Imja Tse) at 6,189 meters.
Your journey begins with a scenic mountain flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. From here the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River through pine forests and traditional Sherpa settlements such as Phakding and Namche Bazaar. Namche serves as the cultural and commercial hub of the Khumbu and provides the first dramatic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.
The route gradually climbs through Tengboche and Dingboche, allowing your body time to adapt to the altitude while revealing increasingly dramatic Himalayan landscapes. Along the way you visit Tengboche Monastery, the region’s most important spiritual center, and trek across rugged moraine fields beside the Khumbu Glacier.
Reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) is a milestone moment. Standing beside the Khumbu Icefall, you experience the same environment where legendary mountaineers prepare for Everest expeditions. A sunrise climb to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) offers some of the finest views in the Himalayas, with Everest rising directly above the Khumbu Valley.
After completing the classic trek, the adventure continues toward Chhukung and Island Peak Base Camp. Under the guidance of experienced climbing guides, you receive instruction on using ropes, crampons, and ice axes before attempting the summit. The final climb involves glacier travel and a steep headwall leading to a spectacular summit ridge.
From the top of Island Peak, the panorama stretches across some of the most celebrated peaks on Earth, including Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Baruntse, and Ama Dablam. Combining trekking and mountaineering, this expedition offers both cultural immersion and the exhilaration of standing atop a Himalayan summit.
