The Ghorepani Poon Hill and Mardi Himal Combine Trek is an exceptional journey through the Annapurna region that blends two of Nepal’s most rewarding short trekking routes. This itinerary links the classic Poon Hill sunrise viewpoint with the quieter ridge trails leading to Mardi Himal Base Camp, offering trekkers an outstanding variety of landscapes, cultures, and mountain panoramas within a single adventure.
The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. From here, the trail gradually climbs through terraced hillsides and charming Gurung and Magar villages toward Ghorepani. Along the way, trekkers pass dense forests of rhododendron and oak, especially vibrant in spring when the hills burst into color.
A pre-dawn hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m) reveals one of the most celebrated panoramas in Nepal. As the sun rises, the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges glow with soft morning light, revealing peaks such as Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Nilgiri.
After enjoying the Poon Hill viewpoint, the route continues eastward through peaceful forests and traditional settlements before joining the quieter trails toward Mardi Himal. The scenery gradually changes from lush forest to open alpine ridges where dramatic mountain views dominate the horizon.
The highlight of the trek is reaching Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m), located beneath the striking pyramid of Machhapuchhre. From the ridge above High Camp, trekkers enjoy remarkably close views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and the sacred Fishtail peak rising sharply above the valley.
Throughout the journey, comfortable tea houses provide warm hospitality and insight into local mountain culture. The combination of classic viewpoints, peaceful ridge trails, varied ecosystems, and welcoming villages makes this trek an excellent choice for travelers seeking a diverse Annapurna experience without extremely high altitude.
