The Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is one of the finest short trekking experiences close to Kathmandu. Perfect for travelers with limited time, this three‑day journey blends forest trails, rural Tamang villages, and wide Himalayan panoramas. The route passes through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, a protected area known for its dense woodland, birdlife, and occasional sightings of deer and other wildlife.
The adventure begins with a short drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, the gateway to the national park. From here, the trail climbs steadily through stone staircases, terraced hillsides, and cool forest paths to reach Chisapani. This peaceful ridge-top settlement rewards trekkers with their first views of the Himalayan skyline, including peaks such as Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal on clear days.
The second day follows a scenic ridge trail through forests and small mountain communities toward Nagarkot. Along the way, you pass meadows, farms, and traditional houses where daily rural life continues much as it has for generations. Nagarkot, perched at 2,175 meters, is famous for its wide Himalayan viewpoint stretching from the Annapurna range in the west to Everest in the far east when visibility is excellent.
The final morning is often the highlight of the trek. Watching sunrise over the Himalayas from Nagarkot’s viewpoint is a remarkable sight as golden light gradually reveals layers of snowy peaks and rolling hills below. After breakfast, the trail descends through peaceful countryside to the ancient temple complex of Changu Narayan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its intricate carvings and centuries-old architecture.
Accessible year‑round and suitable for beginners, the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek offers an ideal introduction to trekking in Nepal. In just a few days, it delivers forest walks, cultural encounters, and unforgettable Himalayan scenery without venturing far from the Kathmandu Valley.
