This Bhutan tour with the Bumdra Trek combines the country’s most celebrated cultural landmarks with a short but rewarding Himalayan hike above Paro Valley. Over six days, you will explore the historic cities of Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha before trekking to the peaceful alpine meadow of Bumdra, a sacred meditation site overlooking dramatic mountain landscapes.
Your journey begins with a spectacular flight into Paro, often considered one of the most scenic mountain flights in the world. After arrival, travel across Bhutan’s picturesque valleys to Thimphu, the capital city where traditional architecture, monasteries, and cultural institutions reveal the essence of Bhutanese heritage. From there, continue to Punakha, once the royal capital, where the majestic Punakha Dzong stands at the confluence of two rivers.
The adventure portion of the trip begins near Paro with a hike toward Bumdra Monastery. The trail climbs gradually through forests of pine, rhododendron, and ancient prayer flag sites before reaching a peaceful ridge above the valley. From Bumdra, the panorama stretches across forested hills and distant Himalayan peaks. The quiet setting and spiritual atmosphere make it one of Bhutan’s most memorable overnight trekking experiences.
The following day’s descent leads to Bhutan’s most famous landmark, Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), dramatically perched on a vertical cliff high above Paro Valley. Visiting the monastery after approaching it from above offers a unique perspective rarely experienced by standard day hikers.
This itinerary blends culture, scenery, and light adventure, making it ideal for travelers who want more than a typical sightseeing tour. Comfortable accommodations, guided cultural visits, and manageable hiking days ensure an enriching experience while exploring the remarkable landscapes and traditions of the Kingdom of Bhutan.
