The Bhote Koshi River is widely regarded as one of Nepal’s most exciting rivers for whitewater rafting. Flowing directly from the Tibetan plateau through a narrow Himalayan gorge, this river drops rapidly in elevation, creating powerful rapids, continuous waves, and an energetic ride that draws adventure seekers from around the world.
This Bhote Koshi River rafting adventure combines adrenaline-filled river time with beautiful countryside scenery. The journey begins in Kathmandu before a scenic drive east toward the Tibetan border. The road follows steep valleys and terraced hillsides until reaching Lamosangu, the traditional starting point for rafting expeditions on the Bhote Koshi.
After a safety briefing and gear preparation, you launch onto the river and immediately encounter fast-moving whitewater. The Bhote Koshi is famous for its steep gradient and tight rapids, which create a series of technical sections perfect for both rafting and kayaking. Between the thrilling rapids, you will float through dramatic gorges lined with lush forest and scattered hillside villages.
The first day typically ends at Sukute Beach, a popular riverside destination known for its sandy banks and peaceful setting. Here, the team sets up camp for the night beside the rushing river. Evenings are relaxed, with warm meals, conversation around the camp, and the sound of the river flowing through the valley.
On the following day, the adventure continues downstream with more exciting rapids before finishing the rafting section near Lamosangu. After changing into dry clothes, you return to Kathmandu by road.
Because of its short duration and intense rapids, the Bhote Koshi rafting trip is perfect for travelers with limited time who still want a genuine Himalayan adventure. With professional guides, quality equipment, and a dramatic river setting, this experience offers one of the most exhilarating whitewater journeys in Nepal.
