The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake is an extended version of Nepal’s legendary Annapurna Circuit, adding a spectacular detour to Tilicho Lake—one of the highest lakes on Earth at an elevation of 4,919 meters. This journey circles the mighty Annapurna Massif while revealing an incredible range of landscapes, cultures, and Himalayan panoramas.
The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu into the Marsyangdi River valley. The trail climbs steadily through lush forests, waterfalls, and terraced hillsides before reaching traditional mountain villages such as Chame and Pisang. As the altitude increases, the environment transforms into high alpine terrain where snow peaks dominate the skyline.
Manang serves as a key acclimatization stop. Surrounded by the towering peaks of Annapurna II, III, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak, the village offers time to adjust to the altitude while exploring ancient monasteries and glacial lakes. From here, the trail branches west toward Tilicho Lake, a stunning turquoise basin tucked beneath dramatic cliffs and icy summits.
After visiting the lake, the route rejoins the main Annapurna Circuit and continues toward Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), one of the highest trekking passes in the world. Crossing the pass is the most challenging yet rewarding moment of the journey, with sweeping views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
Descending into the Mustang region, the landscape becomes dry and wind‑carved, reflecting strong Tibetan cultural influences. The trail leads to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath before continuing through the Kali Gandaki valley. Along the way, trekkers pass charming villages such as Marpha and enjoy relaxing stops like the natural hot springs of Tatopani.
This trek combines dramatic altitude changes, rich mountain culture, and some of Nepal’s most iconic scenery. From deep river valleys and alpine meadows to high Himalayan deserts and glacial lakes, the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake offers one of the most diverse trekking experiences in the Himalayas.
