The journey begins with a dramatic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek along the Dudh Koshi River valley. The trail passes through pine forests, suspension bridges, and lively Sherpa settlements before reaching Namche Bazaar, the vibrant trading center of the Khumbu region. Here you acclimatize and explore nearby villages such as Khumjung, home to a historic monastery and schools established through the efforts of Sir Edmund Hillary.

CUSTOMIZE MY TRIPThe best seasons for the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these months the skies are typically clear, temperatures are stable, and mountain views are at their best. Spring brings blooming rhododendron forests and pleasant daytime conditions, while autumn offers crisp air and exceptional visibility after the monsoon season.
Trekkers must obtain a Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit. These are checked at various points along the trail and help support conservation efforts and local infrastructure within the Everest region.
This trek is considered moderate. You will walk between five and seven hours most days while gradually gaining altitude. A reasonable level of fitness and some prior hiking experience are recommended. Preparation such as regular cardio exercise and hill walking before the trip will make the journey more comfortable.
Most travelers can obtain a Nepal tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Visitors should carry a valid passport with at least six months of validity and passport‑sized photos. Visa fees depend on the length of stay.
Weather in the Everest region varies with altitude and season. Daytime temperatures at lower elevations are generally mild, while nights can become cold as you gain altitude. At Ama Dablam Base Camp temperatures may drop below freezing, particularly in early morning and evening hours. Layered clothing is essential to stay comfortable.
