We take a spectacular domestic flight to Tumlingtar from Kathmandu to begin this trek. Tumlingtar is located in the eastern part of Nepal. The trail begins with spectacular terraced farmlands in the lower Makalu region. Ascending, you will pass through deep rhododendron, beautiful waterfalls, and landscapes and various species of flora and fauna in Makalu Barun National Park. The deep forested trail, finally, turns into alpine landscapes with smaller bushes and glacier valleys including the very popular Barun Valley and Barun Glacier.

Best Weather:-

The Fall ( Sep-Nov) and Spring ( Mar-May) are the two most finest weathers of the year for Makalu Base Camp Trek. However, people undertake this trek during pre-winter days. But, the peak of the winter days and the summer/rainy will trouble with unfavorable weather extremes like heavy rainfall and snowfall on the trail. During Fall and Spring, you will celebrate the spectacular views with best weather of the year.

Food and Accommodation:-

You will stay overnight at local teahouses/lodges. The beds are neat enough to spend a single night. Regarding food items, mostly, you will eat Nepali, Indian and continental dishes prepared by local people. All the food items will be very fresh and organic.

Required Permits:-

Since it is not a restricted area trekking in Nepal, trekkers require to obtain two different permits for Makalu Base Camp Trek. These permits are TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) Card and Makalu Barun National Park Entry Permit. But, Nepali National can do this trek without any of the permits.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrive in Kathmandu

We will excitedly be waiting to receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport. If you are using roadways to arrive in Kathmandu, use Indian and Chinese borders. As soon as we receive you, you will take a short drive to the hotel. Take a rest and relax at the hotel. You can go for a short walk around if you have time.

Day 2:

Half-Day Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour and Trek Preparation

We go for Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour initially and spend the rest of the time for the trek. We will go to visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Swyombhunath Stupa, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple and Bouddhanath Stupa. These sites are the sites of cultural, historical and religious importance. We will have our own private vehicle and professional tourist guide with us.

After we end this sightseeing tour, we will sit together for a short discussion about the trek and we go for the preparation of the trek. For the well preparation, you can go to buy the equipment you need for the trek. Use rest of the time for beautiful dinner and relaxation. You can pack up the right and necessary clothing and gears for the trek after that.

Day 3:

Fly to Tumlingtar and Drive to Chichila

Today, we, initially, take a short domestic flight to Tumlingtar. This flight is for 30 minutes. We land at Tumlingtar airport and drive to Chichira. The drive is for 1-2 hours through a magnificent country setting. Chihira is a beautiful settlement of Grurng people. Here, we prepare and talk about the next day’s trek.

Day 4:

Trek to Num

We are beginning today’s trek after a beautiful breakfast at Chichila. After breakfast, we embark on the spectacular trail through lush forest and beautiful local villages. You will enjoy the trip tremendously till you arrive at Num. Num village is located at the ride providing great views around. Stay overnight at the local lodge at Num.

Day 5:

Trek to Seduwa

Today, we get into Makalu Barun National National Park with an incredible experience of crossing the Barun river on the way. First, we have descent via deep woods and will encounter steep ascent after crossing the Barun River. After some hours of walk, you start walking into Barun National Park. We register our valid permits and stay overnight at Seduwa.

Day 6:

Trek to Tashigaon

You will pass a ridge made by the Ipsuwa Khola first. Next, you will enjoy the walk through beautiful local villages and spectacular paddy fields which finally takes us to another impressive village of Tashi Gaon. The village feeds us with an incredible mountain panorama. Stay overnight at a local lodge.

Day 7:

Trek to Khongma Danda

You’re gonna have a challenging day today because you will encounter a steep trail with some ridges while heading towards Khongma Danda. First, as you leave Tashigaon, you will walk up to the stream via lush forest. Next, you will further ascend and pass the ridge. Working hard, you will begin to experience beautiful pastures at higher elevation. In the final section of the trail, you will walk past stone stairs and the lakes. Take another short walk down to Khongma Danda. Stay overnight at a local lodge.

Day 8:

Acclimatization and Rest day in Khongma Danda

Normally, people just stay in the lodge and relax with late morning breakfast. You can just take a walk around and explore the area. Actually, this is the rest day before we head to Shipton La Pass. Enjoy beautiful dinner in the evening and hydrate well.

Day 9:

Trek to Dobate

Initially, ascend up to Shipton La Pass ( 4229m) which is, sometimes, challenging for the trekkers. Next, head towards Kalo Pokhari (3930m), and walk past Keke La (4,170m). From the top of Keke La, one can view spectacular mountain peaks incuding Chamlang (7321m), Peak 6 (6,524m) and Peak 7 (6,758m). After we capture the beautiful views, we, finally, walk down to Dobate passing through spectacular valley. Spend the night at a local tea house.

Day 10:

Trek to Yangle Kharka

The Barun River and lush rhododendron makes today’s trip more spectacular. En route, we walk through deep rhododendron and the trail takes us to Barun River. We enjoy the walk through beautiful valley. Then, the train turns really steep. Walk for a few hours and you will begin to celebrate a delightful walk. Finally, gaining the gradual ascent, you will arrive at Yangri Kharka.

Day 11:

Trek to Langmale Kharka

You will have a mild walk, today, passing through beautiful yak pastures and forested areas. Walk past Merek before we get to Langmale Kharka. On the way, we also see beautiful walls and the valleys. Stay overnight at a local lodge at Langmale Kharka.

Day 12:

Trek to Makalu Base camp

Today is a very important day because we are stepping at Makalu Base Camp. Before we get to Makalu Base Camp, we pass Shershong. As soon as we arrive at the base camp, we will be busy capturing magnificent mountain panorama all around .Stay overnight at the base camp.

Day 13:

Day walk around Makalu Base Camp

This is the day for exploration of magnificent Makalu Base Camp and the surrounding with incredible mountain panorama. Have breakfast and take a short walk up to the better viewpoints and imprison breathtaking Mt. Makalu, Everest and Lhotse. Here, we celebrate the victory of stepping at Makalu Base Camp.

Day 14:

Trek back to Yangle Kharka

Today, we begin backtracking. We trek back to Yangle Kharka passing Langmale Kharka and Marek. On the way, we see the Barun rive and the spectacular valley. Passing through lush rhododendron, we arrive at Yangle Kharka.

Day 15:

Trek to Dobate

You will trek all the way back to Dobate passing through Keke La, Kalo Pokhari and , finally, Shipton La Pass. You will also celebrate the walk through incredible valleys. Stay overnight at the local lodge at Dobate.

Day 16:

Trek to Khongma Danda

The trail, today, passes through lush forest, majestic walls, ridges and spectacular pastures. You are heading towards lower elevation, yet, equally enjoy the walk until you get to Khongma Danda. Enjoy local lodge accommodation and local foods.

Day 17:

Trek to Tashigaon

Have breakfast and head towards Tashigaon from Khongma Danda. Walk past beautiful local villages, incredible paddy fields which finally take you to Tashigaon. Capture spectacular mountain panorama from Tashigaon, again.

Day 18:

Trek to Seduwa

Celebrate today’s walk through lush forest and spectacular landscapes. You will cross Barun River and finally arrive at Seduwa. You will enjoy the evening with a beautiful dinner with your team.

Day 19:

Trek to Num

Walk through deep woods and spectacular local settlements. The shady trail and the serene surrounding make today’s trip enjoyable too. Enjoy this second last night accommodation at the local lodgeat Num.

Day 20:

Trek to Chichila and drive to Tumlingtar

Today, we, first, trek to Chichila and take a short drive to Tumlingtar. Since this is the final evening of the trek in the rural lodge, you celebrate this great achievement or accomplishment with your trekking crew at Tumlingtar.

Day 21:

Fly Back to Kathmandu

Board on this spectacular flight to Kathmandu early in the morning and check in the hotel. You will have a free afternoon which you can use for shopping and laundry purposes. We will meet and have a beautiful dinner with a cultural show in the evening. Relax and rest at the hotel. Do packing or some preparation for the next day’s flight back to home.

Day 22:

Departure

This is the last day of your Nepal stay. We drop you to the Tribhuvan International Airport safely. Next, you will catch your international flight back to home. Hope, you will have marvelous days ahead.
